Biggest Eye Cream Mistakes

Original Article by Anna Jimenez.
Eye cream is one of those skin-care products that some women believe to be dispensable. Well, we are here to set the record straight. It's not. In fact, it's essential. If you're in the camp that could take or leave your eye cream, then you are most likely not using it correctly, which means you aren't reaping the glorious benefits that a quality product could afford you. Here are the major mistakes women make with eye cream:

Buying Based Off Price
It seems intuitive that something that costs the most would work the best, but this is not always the case. Really, you should buy your eye cream based off of the ingredients.

Only Applying Once a Day
Contrary to popular belief, eye products need to be applied twice a day, not just at bedtime. "Ideally, this means you apply eye cream in the morning and eye gel at night," says aesthetician Nerida Joy. Why? Daytime is when your skin is the most vulnerable to the environment, so it's important to keep it hydrated and protected with a thicker cream formula. Night is when skin regenerates and repairs itself, so you want an eye gel or serum with smaller molecules that can really penetrate and allow corrective ingredients to go to work.

Not Letting The Eye Cream “Rest”
When you are applying eye cream in the morning, let it seep into your skin for about 90 seconds before putting on concealer or foundation. This will help keep your makeup from settling into fine lines and wrinkles.

Applying in the Wrong Area
Eye cream should only be applied along the orbital bone of your eye, never on the actual eyelid. Applying it to the brow bone will suffice because the product will naturally migrate downwards. This means you should apply it under the eye to the cheekbone, then to the outer corners, and finally, underneath the brows. Make sure not to press too hard, this skin is very sensitive.
